Integrated Solid Waste Management

Mailhem’s Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) solutions provide a modern and systematic approach with plants ranging from 10 Tons per day PD to 1000 TPD.

Biomethanation Plant (Anaerobic Digestion)

Anaerobic Digestion generates electricity or Bio-CNG from biogas and is eligible under CSR.

Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)

RDF is produced from combustible components, also known as MSW. Mailhem takes this waste from industrial or commercial sites and converts MSW into RDF using processes like homogenizing, drying, segregation, size reduction, densification.

  • RDF is a renewable energy source to ensure that waste doesn’t get dumped into a landfill
  • We use a primary crushing system to homogenize combustible materials above 100mm. It is then shredded in a secondary shredder to produce fluff.
  • Many industrial leaders use this fluff as a boiler fuel instead of coal to ensure a greener and sustainable approach.


Dead animals are incinerated using both RDF fluff, and the oil generated from the plastic pyrolysis project. Mailhem’s incineration facilities incorporate processes like waste storage and handling, processing to prepare waste, combustion, residue (ash) handling and air- pollution control.

  • Burning is a highly effective method to reduce the volume and weight of solid waste.
  • It reduces the volume of uncompacted waste by almost 90%.
  • In our modern incinerators, the waste is burned inside under carefully controlled conditions and a well-designed furnace.

Bioreactor Landfill

Mailhem designs and operates bioreactor landfills in which liquids are added to help bacteria break down the waste.

  • Different types of bioreactor landfills – aerobic, anaerobic and hybrid (aerobic-anaerobic).
  • Bioreactor landfills ensure low toxicity and mobility of waste
  • Increases the landfill space due to the increase in density of waste mass.

Plastic to Fuel

Mailhem converts plastic to fuel to reduce the plastic on earth and also offers a renewable energy source to keep the planet green and clean.

  • Waste plastic is converted into usable fuel by the process which is well known as Thermal Depolymerisation.
  • Recycling techniques of waste plastic and conversion to fuel avoid the negative impacts of plastic pollution.
  • Provides an alternative fuel for diesel engines, reducing the demand on fossil fuels.

Scientific Landfill (SLF)

At Mailhem, we have the expertise in designing and constructing scientific landfills over 10000 square meters, utilized for a 5-year period. Thereafter, it is capped with liners and soil cover with a green top, and a new scientific landfill will be constructed for the next 5 years.

  • Waste rejects like stones, grit, broken glass, road sweepings are disposed of in a SLF and it is an inert component of the ISWM process.
  • SLF also eliminates the risk of waste seeping underground as it is constructed of 90 m of clay, arresting any seepage or leakage within the landfill.
  • The key advantages of a scientific landfill include controlled extraction of methane gas, no risk of pollutants going underground and complete waste treatment at disposal.

Capping of Existing Dumpsite

At Mailhem Environment, we also offer services to cap existing dumpsites or landfills and legacy waste for scientific closure.

  • Capping is the traditional method to isolate landfill wastes and contaminants.
  • We conduct regular inspections to ensure that the weather, plant roots and human activity do not damage the cap.
  • We have completed the biomining of 1.90 lakh tonnes of legacy waste and capping for old dumping sites.
